Music Shaping Zambia’s 2026 Elections

Over the years, political songs have become powerful tools to mobilize citizens during election campaigns.

Simple words, phrases and catchy tunes give political messages more impact. They can shape how people understand political parties and their promises.

Several songs have emerged in support of the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) such as Aleteka by Yo Maps, Alebomba Umuntu by Chile One Mr. Zambia and Abena Zambia by Muzozo.

On the opposition side, National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRUP) tapped into the power of music with Aletutuma and Pe Lampi by Zambia Umuntu. Other songs include Aiminina Tente, a collaboration involving Chester, Shenky T, Rich Bizzy and Kadafi.

Over the course of the campaign season, political parties and candidates have increasingly used music to connect with voters, reaching audiences in ways that traditional political speeches and manifestos may not.

As Zambia’s political landscape continues to grow, music is likely to remain an important tool for political communication.
