Mother Jumps Into River With Baby On Her Back!!

 24 year old mother identified as Agness Musialike of House number 37 Mufuchani Township allegedly threw herself in the Kafue river with her 2 year old boy identified as Joseph Phiri.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba said that the incident was reported on 30th June 2024 and is believed to have happened between 01:00 hours and 07:00.

Brief Facts of the matter are that Musialike, who has a history of epilepsy, was staying with her family for closer monitoring of her condition and on June 30, around 01:00 hours, she left her brother Adam Kayela’s house with her son strapped to her back, who initially thought Musialike had gone to the toilet but became alarmed when she did not return after 30 minutes. He immediately alerted his parents, and a search for her began.

At 6:00 hours, a neighbour, who was heading to work, spotted Musialike’s clothes along the bank of the Kafue River. Upon being informed, the parents rushed to the riverbank, where they were told by locals that they had heard cries for help coming from the river.

Mr Mweemba reveals that good Samaritans quickly responded and found Musialike clinging to reeds but her son was not with her and is believed to have been swept away by the current.

The Copperbelt commanding officer has further revealed Musialike was rushed to Kitwe Teaching Hospital for observation, with the search for two year Joseph is still on going on.
