Court Orders Forfeit Of 1o Higer Buses Belonging To Charity Katanga!!

Following a Conviction-Based Forfeiture application lodged by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), in a case involving the former Deputy Inspector General of Police Ms. Charity Katanga, the Lusaka Magistrate Court On Wednesday, 3rd July 2024, ordered the forfeiture to the State, of Ten (10) Higer Buses valued at USD2, 030,000.00 and cash amounting to K1, 522, 005.00, the same, deemed to be proceeds of crime, and held in Chibeka Express Limited Account maintained with a named Bank.
The forfeiture proceedings and the order thereof, are consistent with the provisions of Section 10 of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010 of the Laws of the Republic of Zambia.
Brief facts of the matter are that, Ms. Charity Katanga, jointly and while acting together with other persons unknown, on dates unknown, but between 1st January 2017 and 6th June 2022, in Lusaka Province, did purchase ten (10) Higer Buses at a total value of USD2, 030,000.00, and did possess cash amounting to K1, 522, 005.00, the same, deemed to be proceeds of crime, and held in her company identified as Chibeka Express Limited Account maintained with a named Bank.
The successful forfeiture of the stated proceeds and instrumentalities of crime reflects the commitment of the Zambian Criminal Justice System to counter economic and financial crimes. This also reflects the power of the spirit of inter-agency collaboration among Law Enforcement Agencies and the National Prosecution Authority (NPA).
