Speaking at a media briefing held on 25 june, 2024, President Hichilema stated that the drought affecting the country highlights the urgent need to accelerate work that should have been done years ago
“We invite suggestions from citizens everywhere, including the global community. We are reaching out to see what others have done under similar conditions and will adopt what is relevant to us. The country needs to encourage investment in power generation. Even the UKA can come and invest. It doesn’t matter where you come from; if you have a project, bring it forward. It will be considered positively,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of setting politics aside and working together.
“At some point, we need to collaborate, even if we are competitors. We can argue about many things, but not about the drought. We need to address this challenge together in love and unity,” he said.
President Hichilema also advised citizens to spend less time on social media platforms like Tik-Tok and more time on creating businesses in energy generation, which has a market.
“Let’s roll up our sleeves. Let’s stop spending six to seven valuable hours on Tik-Tok. Organize yourselves, create business units, and invest.
There is a market for power generation,” he said.
