Zambia Scores High In The 2023 Global Cybersecurity Index!!
Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati has disclosed that Zambia has scored 92.6%, in the global cybersecurity index 2023, compared to 68.8% in 2020, 43.6% in 2017, 29.2% in 2016, and 14.7% in 2014.
Speaking during a breakfast meeting convened by the Zambia Research and Education Network-ZAMREN-in Lusaka, Mr Mutati said this progress reflects Zambia’s commitment to enhancing its cybersecurity landscape and safeguarding its digital infrastructure.
He explains that the index launched by the International Telecommunication Union measures the commitment of countries to cybersecurity development across five critical pillars which include legal measures, technical measures, organizational measures, capacity building, and cooperation.
Mr Mutati says Zambia’s exceptional rise in the index demonstrates government’s robust approach to protecting the nation’s digital economy, critical information infrastructure, and safeguarding citizens from cyber threats.
He says while Zambia’s 92.6% score places it among the leaders in cybersecurity in Africa, government is committed to further improving its capacity-building programs and promoting public-private partnerships to ensure that the country`s digital infrastructure remains resilient and secure in the face of evolving global cyber threats.
At the same event, ZAMREN Chief Executive Officer Stein Mkandawire underscored the importance of forging meaningful partnership that will enhance the access to internet in Zambia especially in rural areas.
