Zambia Makes AFRIMA History: Cleo Ice Queen, Bombshell Grenade & Yo Maps

The Zambian music industry continues to rise, and today we proudly celebrate our artists who have put the nation on the continental map through their achievements at the All Africa Music Awards.
Their success is proof that the industry is in safe hands.
Cleo Ice Queen – A Historic First
We begin by celebrating Cleo Ice Queen, born Clementina Mulenga (14 June 1989). She is widely regarded as one of the most influential female hip-hop artists in Southern Africa, known for her sharp lyricism, strong stage presence, and her role in promoting Zambian hip-hop across the continent.
In 2021, she competed in the highly competitive Best Female Artist in Southern Africa category alongside top artists such as Busiswa, DJ Zinhle, Kamo Mphela, Makhadzi, Nomcebo Zikode, Sha Sha, and others.
Despite the tough competition, she emerged winner at AFRIMA 2021 in Lagos, Nigeria, making history as the first Zambian artist to win in this category. This was a major milestone not just for her, but for Zambia as a whole.
Bombshell Grenade – Female Rap Power
Next, we recognize Bombshell Grenade, born Bwalya Sophie Chibesakunda (31 December 1987), also known as Mfumu Kadzi. She is one of Zambia’s most fearless and influential female rappers.
Bombshell gained international recognition after winning Best Female Rapper Southern Africa at the African Muzik Magazine Awards.
She competed against strong contenders including Nadia Nakai, Sampa The Great, Rosa Ree, Eno Barony, Muthoni Drummer Queen, and Ms Banks. Her victory proved that Zambian female rappers can compete and win at the highest level.
Yo Maps – King of Southern Africa
Last but not least, we celebrate Yo Maps, born Elton Mulenga (29 November 1994), one of Zambia’s biggest musical exports.
At the 2025 AFRIMA Awards, Yo Maps won Best Male Artist in Southern Africa, beating top artists such as Nasty C, Jah Prayzah, Tyler ICU, and others.
In his victory message, he said:
“From being the King of Zambian music to the King of Southern Africa 👑🔥🦅. The journey keeps getting louder. Zambia kuchalo 🇿🇲💪. Thanks to everyone who made this possible, especially my fans. All praises to the Most High!”
His win reflects both his personal growth and the continued rise of Zambian music on the African stage.
At Zedwap, we would like to appreciate all Zambian artists who continue to work hard and push the industry forward.
These achievements are more than just awards they are milestones that inspire the next generation of talent.
Zambia to the world.
