Yo Maps Speaks Out: It’s About Money, I’m Not in Any Political Party

Multi-Award winning Zambian music icon – Yo Maps sets the internet on fire after the release of Aleteka“, a smash hit campaign song for one of Zambia’s strongest political party – UPND. This release has sparked a huge debate among netizens, as a certain group feel betrayed by the singer especially after the “Alebwelelapo PF Campaign Song” released in 2021 which made fans believe he was affiliated with the PF political party. The media space has been buzzing with with this question, has Yo Maps joined the UPND?

Well lets set the record straight, a few months ago Yo Maps featured on the Kenny T 1On1 Podcast were he addressed his involvement in releasing political songs and appearing for political rallies, “For me It’s business, as an artist i feel we more like civil servants, even if Government changes we will work with the next Government, we go where money is. If you see me releasing political songs or performing at rallies am just there for money”.  When asked if he supports any political party, Yo Maps bravely said the he supports Zambia, meaning he is non partisan.

Despite making his stance known around politics, a certain quarter of his music followers still argue that artists should not be involved in the political environment, while others believe that politics is just another form of business artists can earn extra cash.
