Where has the Political Regalia Gone?

With Zambia heading to the polls on 13 August 2026, one noticeable change in this election season is the limited presence of political regalia.

In previous elections, it was common to see supporters proudly wearing party-branded T-shirts, Chitenge materials, caps, hoodies and scarves in markets, buses, business centers and in communities.

While parties continue to mobilise supporters, everyday displays of party regalia appear to have reduced, making the election atmosphere feel different from previous years.

Unlike well-established parties whose colours are instantly recognisable, some newer parties are yet to build that level of public recognition through their regalia.

As election day draws closer, it will be interesting to Zambia’s streets once again become filled with the colours of political competition.
