Solomon Plate’s Journey to the Recording Academy
For more than a decade, Solomon Moyo, popularly known as Solomon Plate, has built a career across the full spectrum of music, as a singer, songwriter, producer and sound engineer.
That versatility has now earned him a place in the Recording Academy’s Class of 2026 as a Voting Member, marking a significant milestone in his career and giving him a voice in recognising music excellence on the global stage.
But Solomon Plate’s journey to the Academy has been shaped by years of work behind the scenes and in front of the microphone.
Plate has developed into a multi-talented musician whose production style blends Afrobeat and traditional Zambian rhythms with contemporary R&B and gospel influences.
As a producer and sound engineer, he has worked with some of Zambia’s leading artists, including Slapdee, Macky 2, Pompi and Mag44. His work has also taken him beyond Zambia, with collaborations involving international artists such as American Christian hip-hop artist Da’ Truth and Nigerian Afro-gospel musician Limoblaze.
While much of his influence has been felt behind the scenes, Solomon has also established himself as a recording artist.
His debut album, Munthu, released in 2017, introduced him to a wider audience and featured the breakout single, Way You Are. The project earned him two Kwacha Music Award nominations.
His sophomore album, Over & Over, further showcased his growth as an artist, with songs such as Cibe, featuring Esther Chungu and Siniziba, featuring Ephraim.
Beyond music production and recording, Plate has also contributed to film and television. He composed the theme song for Zambezi Magic production, Zuba Season 4 and the soundtrack Fever Season 2, another Zambezi Magic Production.
He also worked on the music and soundtrack for Can You See Us, the Zambian film that became the first Zambian feature film to stream globally on Netflix.
As a Voting Member, he now joins a global community of music professionals who help shape the Grammy Awards and recognise excellence across the industry.
