In a clarifying statement released, Justice Minister Princess Kasune has denied speculations that the UPND (United Party for National Development) administration is secretly planning to alter clauses within the country’s Constitution. The Minister deemed the reports circulating in social media and among certain circles as false and misleading.

The Justice Minister highlighted President Hakainde Hichilema’s commitment to transparency and inclusivity, stating that any constitutional amendment, if considered, would be carried out with consensus and the utmost regard for democratic principles. “President Hichilema has been clear and consistent in his stance,” Ms. Kasune emphasized. “Any process to amend the constitution, should it arise, will be delivered in a transparent and inclusive manner, ensuring all stakeholders have a voice Drawing a line between her administration’s intentions and the actions of the previous PF (Patriotic Front) administration, Princess Kasune stated, “Unlike the notorious Bill 10 of 2019, which was marred by controversy and criticism for its lack of transparency, our government will not engage in any mischievous constitution amendment process.” This declaration underscores the UPND’s resolve to avoid the divisive and secretive practices that characterized the PF’s attempt to revise the Constitution.

The Justice Minister also took the opportunity to caution former leaders, encouraging them to avoid spreading disinformation regarding constitutional matters. “It is imperative that all leaders, including those from previous regimes, desist from misleading the public on the constitution amendment process,” she said. “Such actions only serve to sow confusion and mistrust among our citizens.”
