GOVERNMENT will not assist in settling US$1.2 million owed to former national team coach Aljosa Asanovic because Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) officials insisted they did not owe the Croat.

And FIFA will proceed to impose a 20 percent restriction on FAZ’s right to receive development funding from the world governing body starting this month following the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)’s decision to throw out the appeal.

Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu said in an interview from Paris yesterday that Government engaged the FAZ top brass, who insisted they never owed Asanovic.

Nkandu said it is sad that FAZ has to settle a huge bill when they could have sat with the Croat to sort out the issue amicably.

According to the ruling obtained on Friday by the Sports Mail, CAS rejected the appeal in totality.
