CHIEF Government spokesperson Dismisses ECL’s Pronouncements

CHIEF Government spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says since former president Edgar Lungu is an elder and former president, he is expected to offer solutions to Government on loadshedding.
This comes to light after Lungu’s allegations that the country is going through economic hardships because the UPND has failed.
Addressing the media yesterday, Mweetwa stated that it is shocking to see Lungu criticising Government when he is the one responsible for the current mess in the country.
He said Lungu should concentrate on offering alternative policies to Government to generate more power than name calling.
“We want to indicate that whereas we respect his democratic and constitutional freedom of speech, his statement is highly uncalled for. Extended hours of load shedding is as a result of insufficient water and the previous administration neglected alternatives in power generation,” disclosed Mweetwa.
“We expect decent political discourse to acknowledge that they caused the mess.
We are really taken aback to see people who caused us this mess to allege that we caused it, we want them to come up with solutions, they have no ideas apart from misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda.”
Mweetwa also stated that the opposition should not expect President Hakainde Hichilema to respond to their name calling as he is busy attending to issues that matter to Zambia.
He further urged the youths to dismiss what Lungu told them at the Citizen’s First rally in Kitwe that he would recruit two million of them and inscribe them into the defense forces.
Mweetwa revealed that there’s no one in the country with the authority to recruit such a huge number of youths as it does not match with the resource envelope.
“Young people should dismiss that statement and treat it with the contempt it deserves. It’s being over ambitious, it has to match with the resources envelope,” he disclosed.
