Tanzanian Bongo Flava star Smosha has released a new lively solo tune called “Nyau Nyau”.
Since this dropped Smosha has been on the come up, seeing success on Audiomack, YouTube, and TikTok. “Nyau Nyau” is repeated all around, and quickly became a short hand for street culture, everyday swagger. That’s the kind of fun repetition that makes Bongo Flava songs go viral.
The sound is smooth but straightforward, opting for a clear, catchy beat above anything too profound. The hook is the only thing here that competes for attention. The speed is slow enough that the title phrase has room to really soak in with several listenings.
Smosha’s vocals have a laid-back confidence from the very first line. He’s more of a joker than a rager and the whole record feels like a private joke between him and the audience. But none of this is overly serious, and obviously the lightness is meant. The tune’s still there without great narration.
