K21 Million Kasenegwa Truck Park Commissioned

The Government has commissioned the Mthira Kubili Truck Park in Kasenengwa District, Eastern Province, in a development expected to boost local revenue collection, stimulate economic activity and create employment opportunities.

Government has commissioned the Mthira Kubili truck park in Kasenengwa District, Eastern Province, in a development expected to boost local revenue collection, stimulate economic activity and create employment opportunities.

The 24-hour facility, owned by the Kasenengwa Town council was constructed at a cost of K2.1 Million and has the capacity to accommodate more than 60 trucks daily.

The project was funded through capital grants under the Zambia Devolution Support Program (ZDSP), a World Bank supported initiative implemented through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Truck Park, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Nicholas Phiri, has described the infrastructure blueprint as a significant milestone in the Government’s grassroots development agenda.

He has said the truck park is set to stimulate local trade, generate employment and provide a strong developmental drive for Kasenengwa District.

He has said the project is also a demonstration of the impact of decentralization, noting that ZDSP has enabled local communities to make decisions and implement projects that directly respond to their needs.

The Permanent Secretary has further called on the community and the Local Authority to protect the facility from vandalism and ensure that it is properly maintained to benefit future generations.

And Acting Kasenengwa Town Council Secretary, Fredrick Peneshi, has said the truck park’s positioning along Great East Road, will immediately begin capturing trade-route revenue for the Local Authority, while creating jobs for local residents.
