Mag 44, Solomon Plate Join Recording Academy’s Class of 2026

Zambian musicians Magg 44 and Solomon Plate have joined the Recording Academy’s Class of 2026 as Voting Members, giving them a role in the peer-driven process that determines nominees and winners of the GRAMMY Awards.

This development marks a significant milestone for the two artists and gives Zambia representation within the global organization.

In separate statements, both artists have expressed gratitude for the opportunity and highlighted the significance of representing Zambia and Africa on the international music stage.

Magnus Mando alias Mag 44, has said that he is honoured to join the Recording Academy, describing the achievement as humbling.

“Music has given me purpose, community and opportunities I could never have imagined. To now be part of an organization that celebrates and helps shape the future of music around the world is both humbling and inspiring, “ the record producer said.

“This milestone is not mine alone, it is a reflection of everyone who has believed in me, supported my journey, collaborated with me and listened to the music over the years. Thank you for being part of this story.”

Meanwhile, Solomon Moyo, who performs under the stage name Solomon Plate, has also expressed gratitude for officially joining the Academy.

Plate reflected on his musical journey, which began as a young boy in Kabwata area of Lusaka, describing music as a gift God had placed in his heart.

“I never imagined it would take me on a journey that would allow me to contribute to projects, collaborate with incredible artists and now be part of the organisation behind the GRAMMYs,” the singer said.

Both artists have thanked fellow musicians Moonga K. and Sampa The Great for the opportunity.

The Recording Academy is a global organisation that represents music creators and professionals, including performers, songwriters, producers and engineers. It is dedicated to celebrating artistic excellence, advocating for creators’ rights and supporting the music community.

The “Class of 2026” represents the Academy’s newest and most diverse cohort, featuring over 4,000 global music creators.
